2012 Fish Stocking Summary for Pokegama Lake and Connected Waters

Walleye fingerlings were stocked in October.Pokegama Lake received its annual quota of 1,978 pounds; the fish were 15.2/lb.for a total of 30,754 fish.Jay Gould and Little Jay Gould received a combined total of 500 pounds of fingerlings.The normal quota for these two lakes is 370 pounds.These fish were of a larger size than preferred, so the amount stocked was increased to bring the number of fish up to 2,900. A total of 1,978 Muskellunge fingerlings (10 to 12 inch fish) were also stocked in Pokegama Lake in late October.The same amount was stocked in both 2008 and 2010.Some of the largest fish from the 2008 stocking could be over 30 inches long by now. Lake Trout - 272 adult lake trout (up to 2 pounds each) were stocked in Pokegama in early November.These are surplus fish from the state hatchery system that occasionally become available for stocking.The Area Fisheries Office is interested in hearing if anglers catch these fish. Proposed stocking for 2013 includes 370 pounds of walleye fingerlings for Jay Gould/Little Jay Gould and 1,978 pounds for Pokegama.Some lake trout could be stocked again if they become available.
